I present a briefly summary of the current status of inflationary models versus topological defects scenarios, as the mechanisms which could have induced the initial density perturbations, which left an imprint on the cosmic microwave backgound radiation anisotropies.

Topology on the lattice is reviewed. In quenched QCD topological susceptibility χ is fully understood. The Witten-Veneziano mechanism for the η ′ mass is confirmed. The topological susceptibility drops to zero at the deconfining phase transition. Preliminary results are also presented for χ and χ ′ in full QCD, and for the spin content of the proton. We discuss the recently devised one-loop gap equation for the magnetic mass of hot QCD. An alternative, and one would hope equivalent, gap equation is presented, which however shows no mass generation at the one-loop level.

For an asymptotically hyperbolic metric on the interior of a compact manifold with boundary, we prove that the resolvent and scattering operators are continuous functions of the metric in the appropriate topologies.
